Fierce competition on third day at Al Bashayer Festival

ADAM: The competitions continued on the third day in the annual Al Bashayer Camel Festival organised by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, the Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan.

The fifth edition of the camel race will continue till March 5, with participation of camel owners and trainers from various governorates of Oman and GCC countries in 74 rounds.

While Monday and Tuesday races were for young categories, Wednesday’s competition started for old category ‘Elythaa’ for 6 km in 10 rounds with 206 participants in the morning with cash prizes for the top 10.

The first round winner was ‘Gazya’ owned by Humaid al Gahafi which covered 6 km in 9 minute 19 seconds out of 17 participants. In the second round competed by 19 camels, ‘Shahean’ for Bader Al Dareai claimed the top spot (9:28).

The third round (16 camels) was won by ‘Adbyah’ for Mohammed al Dahri from UAE in 9:37.

In the fourth round (15 camels), ‘Muaaned’ for Sultan Al Gfeali came top on 9:32.

In the fifth round took part by 22 camels, Zaher al Malki’s ‘Butolah’ finished on top in 9:36.

‘Ektyar’ owned by Khalid al Hajri claimed the 6 km sixth round honours in 9:35 out of 20 participants. ‘Dari’ of Salim al Dari won the seventh round in 9:39 over 31 camels.

The eighth round honours was taken by ‘Alaber’ for Musa al Ghafi with 9:37 out of 25 participants. In the ninth round, ‘Entebah’ from UAE for Suhail al Amri emerged winner in 9:38 out of 21 camels. The tenth and last race was won by ‘Musda’ of Hamed al Wahibi in 9 minutes and 43 seconds out of 20 camels.

‘REFAL’ WINS BIG

In the evening, the competitions were more intense among 167 participants in 5 rounds as the prizes was SUV cars with valuable symbols (cups and gun).

The opening race for the cup and a car was grabbed by ‘Refal’ owned by Royal Camel Corps (RCC) under coach Amer al Amri with 9:13 out of 15 camels. The second cup and a car was snatched by ‘Al Dabi’ for Mohammed al Muhrmi from UAE with a time of 9:25 out of 25 camels.

In the third round for gun and a car, ‘Alwasmi’ for Abdulah al Darmaki came on top in 9:24 out of 53 participants. The fourth round was claimed by ‘Hawail’ for Mohamed al Jenibi with 9:17 out of 36 camels . In the fifth and last round for car, ‘Hudor’ for Awad al Wahibi covered the 6km with 9 minutes and 19 seconds out of 38 participants to claim the prize.
