Omani riders clinch 9 gold at International Showjumping event

The International Showjumping Championship (Masters 2022), organised by the Mojo Equestrian Centre, in cooperation with the Oman Equestrian Federation (OEF) and under the supervision of the International Equestrian Federation, took place over two days in Barka with the participation of 110 riders.

The closing ceremony was attended by Munthir bin Saif bin Hamad al Busaidy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Equestrian Federation, in the presence of a number of sports federations and heads of representatives of government and private cavalry units and representatives of the sponsoring companies.

The Omani riders won 23 medals, including 9 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze.

The championship witnessed strong competition among 110 riders from 12 countries. Oman, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Britain, America, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy, Iraq and Morocco riders took part in the event.

The first women’s championship was also launched.

In the first round for new local horses and riders (hurdles height 70-80 cm), 8 horses participated.

Anas bin Walid al Wahaibi on ‘Hajis’ from Al Amerat Equestrian School came first, followed by Abdulrahman al Harrasi by ‘Sandy Baba’ from Al Rayyan Centre and Omar bin Imad al Wahaibi on ‘Ram’ from Al Amerat Equestrian School.

The second round for local beginners’ category (hurdles 90-95 cm) saw 18 riders in action. Qasim bin Muhammad al Farsi on ‘Sohar’ from the Royal Oman Police (ROP) won the top spot. Haider Anwar al Rashed on ‘Shars’ from the Arabian Stables, was second and Asaad al Hadi by ‘Hayam’ (ROP) came third.

In the women’s third international round, (105 cm) 12 horses took part. Amna bint Nasser al Sharjiyah over ‘Roel’ from Oman won the top place. Natasha Langrish over ‘Linka’ from the United Kingdom claimed second and Heba Samhouri on ‘Fantastic’ from the Jordan finished third.

The fourth round for Category E (height 105 cm), saw 28 participants and Omani riders took the top three places. Madin bin Saeed al Yousufi on ‘Wadood’ claimed first, Al Munthir bin Mohammed al Toobi on ‘Aram’ was second and Mohammed bin Hamoud al Touqi on ‘Gold Girl’ finished third.

In the international fifth round for Category D (hurdles 110 cm), 15 riders participated.

Haider Anwar al Rashed on ‘Weidam’ from Iraq won the first place, Hamoud bin Sultan al Touqi on ‘Danny de Ferheit’ from Oman was second and Jamal bin Humaid al Sharyani on ‘E Jain’ from Oman came third.

Four riders took part in the sixth round for Category C (120 cm). Hamoud bin Sultan al Touqi on ‘Philo’ was first, followed by Barakat bin Muhanna al Hadi on ‘Al Adham’ and Shaikh Khalid bin Saeed al Wahaibi on ‘Ali Bey’.

Oman swept the seventh international round for Category B (130 cm). Sultan bin Hamoud al Touqi won the first place on the ‘Hangover’, Hamoud bin Sultan al Touqi on ‘Talbot’ was second and Mohammed bin Salim al Hadhrami over ‘Raja’ finished third.
