Oman to host first meet of ACI board on March 26

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will host the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Airports Council International (ACI) from March 26-27 in its new session, which started at the beginning of this year and will end at the end of (2023).

The meeting, which will be held at Ritz-Carlton Hotel – Al Bustan Palace, will be attended by members of the Board of Directors of the Airports Council International, which consists of 30 Chief Executive Officers of major airports in the world, in the presence of the International General Director of the Airports Council International, Luis Felipe de Oliveira who will conduct a number of executive meetings with the Board members, and a number of invited personalities from the aviation and airports sector regionally and internationally.

The Sultanate will preside this session of the council’s round, and will be represented by Sheikh Aimen bin Ahmed al Hosni, the Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Airports Council International; as it is hoped that the Board of Directors will discuss in Muscat.

Several Sustainability related topics, methods to enhance cooperation between airports, international aviation organizations and various partners, with the aim to find innovative methods to enhance efficiency in the airports and aviation sector; especially after the ‘Covid 19’ pandemic conditions; which impacted the airports and aviation sector worldwide, the current political conditions and the rise in oil prices.

The world’s airports Chief Executive Officers will also discuss, in their first meeting, the projects submitted by the regional councils, in addition to approving work plans for the new period of the council’s life, with the aim of documenting work opportunities along with all parties concerned with the aviation industry, in order to find international consensus visions within the constantly renewed travel challenges, which were imposed by “Covid 19” pandemic on the one hand, and the current economic and political conditions on the other hand.

The Council aims to achieve advancement of international airports, and to promote professional excellence in the management and operation of airports; through striving through strengthening cooperation between airports, international aviation organizations, and business partners, to provide safe and highly efficient air transport systems, among all airports in the world.

The General Assembly of the Airports Council International, which is the official umbrella for the airports all over the world, had chosen, during its 64th annual meeting, which was held in November 2021 in Cancun, Mexico, Sheikh Aimen bin Ahmed Al Hosni, the Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, as a Chairman of the Board of Directors of Airports Council International in its new session, which already began on January 1, 2022, and will continue until the end of 2023, to succeed the Argentinian president, Martin Eurnekian, the Chief Executive Officer of Corporation America for Airports.

The Airports Council International, which was established in 1991, carries out supervisory and coordinating tasks in the security, energy, safety, technology, and environmental aspects of this vital economic sector in the world. It is also the responsibility of the Council to represent the interests of airports before policymakers, at the international and national levels.

The headquarters of the council is located in the Canadian capital, Montreal; while its regional councils are distributed in Asia, the Pacific, North and South America, Africa, and Europe. The council consists of 701 members, who manage more than 1,933 airports of 183 countries around the world.
