MUSCAT: The National Search and Rescue Team of the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) concluded its participation in the joint exercise with Qatar International Search and Rescue Group carried out in the sisterly State of Qatar.
The drill is part of the training and operational plans conducted by CDAA with international search and rescue teams to boost readiness and efficiency required for dealing with various emergency cases.
The exercise included many hypothesis tests related to international search and rescue teams. The two teams handled the activities of the exercise which lasted for 36 continuous hours in accordance with the guidelines of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) at the United Nations.
Brigadier General Salim bin Yahya al Hinai, Chairman of the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, attended the exercise.
CDAA’s National Search and Rescue Team is among teams that are internationally recognised by the United Nations INSARAG. The team handles domestic and global emergencies the most prominent of which was the involvement in the Nepal earthquake in 2015. — ONA
