Muscat: A match-turning century by Shoaib Khan and splendid half-centuries from Kashyap Prajapati and Khawar Ali propelled Oman to a convincing seven-wicket victory over Namibia in their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League Two ODI series match on Friday.
Shoaib’s scintillating 105 from 75 balls comprising 11 boundaries and three sixes took the game away from Namibia, who had posted a healthy 275 batting first.
Oman’s chase was launched by the dependable opener Kashyap Prajapati after he struck a well-made 71 off 76 balls with nine boundaries and a six that laid the platform for Oman.
Although, Oman were in a spot of bother at 126/3 after the loss of skipper Zeeshan Maqsood’s wicket, Shoaib and Khawar Ali joined forces in taking them home.
Khawar slammed a quickfire 54 off 46 balls that comprised six boundaries and in the company of Shoaib ensured Oman had crossed over the line with 23 balls to spare.
MIDDLE ORDER RESCUES NAMIBIA
Earlier, Namibia were rescued by a creditable effort by their middle order after the openers and No 3 were out cheaply to leave them reeling at 34/3.
Timely half-centuries from Jan-Nicol Loftie Eaton and Gerhard Erasmus and handy 40s from David Wiese and JJ Smit helped the Namibians reach the score of 275.
Wiese’s 40 off 26 towards the slog overs of the game powered Namibia when they needed it the most as they set up Oman a challenging chase.
Oman were upto it and responded by ensuring their victory in style.
