Salalah: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, His Highness Sayyid Hamad bin Thuwaini Al Said presided over the Annual Horse Race of the Royal Cavalry in the Wilayat of Salalah on Saturday.
The annual race was organised by the Royal Court Affairs, represented by the Royal Cavalry.
Horse ‘Thuniyah’ secured the first place in the first round of the allocated for Arabian thorough-bred horses for 1,200 metres, followed by Horse Mustakshif, Horse Al Raqah, Horse ‘Al Asbaq’ and Horse ‘Muthirah’ of the Royal Cavalry, respectively.
Horse Al Tariq for the Royal Cavalry secured the first place in the second round. Horse ‘Sharis’ for Sheikh Mohammed bin Shihab Al Balushi secured the first place in the third round. Horse ‘Safwa’ for the Royal Cavalry bagged the first place in the fourth round while Horse ‘Souko’ for the Royal Cavalry secured the title of His Majesty the Sultan’s Cup in the fifth round allocated for Arabian thorough – bred horse for 2,000 metres.
The intervals between the rounds of the race witnessed equestrian sports and traditional folk arts associated with horses besides playing international and Omani musical pieces.
