Muscat: Design Group FIDE International Chess Tournament was witness to some sensational chess at the Panorama Mall.
Shybi Binof, the best female player in Oman, upset the applecart of Velavaa Raghavesh.
The morning however belonged to the Omani players who all scored fine victories and the stand out players were Said al Balushi and Sultan al Habsi.
The highest ranked player in the tournament Basheer Qudaimi, players from Yemen, Philippines and Egypt were also doing good.
The afternoon session witnessed some notable triumphs with youngsters Srivatsan Karthikeyan and Krishanu Sai scoring victories over their Omani counterparts Abdul Rahman al Zadjali and Mohad al Amri respectively.
Eight players were with three full points after three rounds and leading the table is Krishanu Sai followed by Napome Emerson, Srivatsan Karthikeyan, Basheer Qudaimi, Hamood al Busaidi, Sultan Al Habsi, Musallam al Aamri and Yasser Hamdan respectively.
As the tournament enters into day 3 and fourth round we look forward to another exciting day of chess.
