Muscat: Khoula Hospital managed, for the first time, to perform a surgical operation, which consisted of restoring and transplanting a patient’s skull through locally manufactured composite materials in cooperation with the “Curtech” company, designed with the latest technologies.
Abdul Moneim bin Salah Al Lawati, CEO of Curtech, told the Oman News Agency: The piece is made of bio-raw “polyether ether ketone”, withstands heat and chemical interaction, and medically suits the properties of bones, and it is inert and does not interact with the human body.
Dr Khalifa bin Muhammad Al-Alawi, Technical Director of Curtech, said: “The company is currently working on manufacturing many pieces, including those related to skull restoration, facial bones and agricultural pieces for spine surgery, and there is continuous cooperation with the Ministry of Health to provide these pieces.”
