Fak-Kurba or Ending Financial Crisis initiative, organised by the Omani Lawyers Association, managed to release 447 insolvent persons since the beginning of the 9th edition of the initiative till now. Those released were imprisoned or were about to be imprisoned due to civil, commercial, labour and Sharia claims.
Dr Mohammed al Zadjali, Chairman of the Association, said that those released were from all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman as follows, 148 cases from South Al Sharqiyah, 77 from South Al Batinah, 70 from North Al Batinah, 45 from North Al Sharqiyah, 39 cases from Al Dhahirah, 30 from Al Dakhiliyah, 9 cases from Musandam, 5 cases from Dhofar and 4 from Al Wusta.
Dr Al Zadjali affirmed that the execution departments in various courts are working closely with the Omani Lawyers Association to achieve this humanitarian goal. He added that the efforts of individuals and institutions in giving hands to those in need are highly appreciated.
“We highly appreciate the efforts of individuals and institutions, and we look forward to bringing joy to insolvent persons and their families, as we move towards the Eid al Fitr”, said Dr Al Zadjali.
“Fak-Kurba initiative is run by Royal support and from other good Samaritans in the society, and we move forward with the humanitarian work in line with the vision of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik who has envisioned on the importance of charity in the society, as well as reflecting the cohesion and solidarity of the Omani society”, said Dr Al Zadjali, who is the supervisor of Fak-Kurba initiative.
“We believe that everyone deserves a second chance.”
The initiative, in its 9th edition this year, has introduced online platform aiming at collecting financial donations to release those who have been imprisoned due to financial civil, commercial or labour claims.
There are many criterion to be applied to select people who really deserve the support.
Accordingly, the insolvent must not be a previous beneficiary of the initiative and the amount shall be related to a civil, commercial, Sharia or labour case, with a maximum of RO 2,000. Priority will be given to those who have less claims, bearing in mind that the selection of cases that meet the conditions is made by the Directorate General of Execution Affairs in the Administrative Affairs for the Judiciary Council. Requests shall not be directly addressed to the initiative, but through the above Directorate General.
Fak-Kurba initiative has, over the past years, helped nearly 4,000 insolvent persons who were imprisoned or who were about to be imprisoned due to various claims covered by the initiative and covered all the governorates.
Nearly 100 male and female lawyers were part of this campaign which has won second place in the Sultan Qaboos Voluntary Work Awards, as it aims to highlight the role of lawyers in volunteer work and activate their participation in social responsibility, thanks to the community solidarity and humanity.
