Special training programme for Class 10 students to begin in Oman

Muscat: Fourteen students in grade 10 will join a training programme to learn about engineering jobs and professions in the field of extraction and production of fossil fuels and gas.

The training programme “Khubrat” will be launched on Sunday, implemented by the Ministry of Education, represented by the Centre for Vocational and Student Guidance, and the Petroleum Development Oman, to train 14 students from the grade 10 in the concession areas on a range of professions and jobs at the company’s work site in Fahud, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate; Nimr, Al Wusta Governorate, and the programme will last for five days.

The programme includes providing participants with an overview of health and safety procedures in the work environment, and training them on their practical application. It also includes the implementation of a field visit to drilling operations, exploration stages, various engineering maintenance workshops and major production stations, and a visual presentation explaining oil production operations. And a visit to the wetlands project to treat water associated with production, one of the largest environmentally friendly innovative projects, and the “mirror” solar energy project in the Amal field to generate steam for use in enhanced oil recovery, which is one of the largest solar power plants in the world in the oil and gas sector.

Sana Al Busaidi, Advisor to the Minister and in charge of the General Director of the Vocational Guidance and Student Counseling Centre, said: “The programme gives participating students the opportunity to learn about the actual work environments through a variety of jobs to be able to discover their skill and professional side, which are one of the goals that the Centre for Career Guidance and Student Counselling seeks to achieve in cooperation with various governmental and private institutions.”

Eng. AbdulAmir Al Ajmi, Executive Director of External Affairs and Value Added at PDO, said: “We are pleased to receive a group of students from the concession areas to learn about the nature of the professions practiced by PDO employees within the programme.”

The program is divided into three main phases:

First stage: It is concerned with applying professional standards to students to measure the compatibility of their personal abilities, inclinations and desires with professional training paths.

Second stage: It is concerned with presenting a theoretical side that contains a set of topics related to practical life.

Third stage is concerned with the practical aspect of the acquired professional skills.
