Multibillion dollar Robotics Park sets up project office

MUSCAT: The promoters of a world-scale Robotics Park planned in the Sultanate of Oman launched their project office at Al Rusayl Industrial City on Wednesday.

Sandy Valley Robotics Park is proposed to be established on a 3.2 million sq metre site within Al Rusayl Industrial City. Earlier this month, the project’s promoters signed an agreement for the lease of land for the landmark project.

Billed as the largest robotics park of its kind in the Middle East, the venture will be implemented in several stages with an initial investment of around $2 billion.

The Robotics Park, which will generate around 15,000 job opportunities, will comprise workshops for manufacturing robots of all kinds including medical, commercial and industrial types.

The park will also feature Research and Development Centre for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, robotics themed shopping stores, training institute in the fields of robotics and AI technologies, in addition to a five-star hotel and an amusement park. The Robotics Park will open its doors to youth inventions, robotics entrepreneurs, and future technologies of robotics and artificial intelligence.

Present at Wednesday’s project office launch were Eng Mohsin bin Zahran al Hinai, CEO of Al Rusayl Industrial City Company; and Dr Tibor Szatmari, Ambassador of Hungary to the Sultanate of Oman.

In an earlier statement to local media, Dr Biju John, Chairman and Managing Director of Sandy Valley Robotics, noted: “The park will be the pride of Oman. The first phase is scheduled to be established in Rusayl Industrial City, and the first phase will span 864 acres of land on scenic hills. The park will open its doors to young inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs in robotics, while encouraging startups in Oman.”

Later phases of the Robotics Park will a five-star hotel, theme park, cable car system, a robotics-themed shopping mall, and other facilities that will promote innovation in robotics. The overall venture will also support Omanization providing training to young people in artificial intelligence and robotics.
