Oman’s first crowdfunding platform EthisX set for launch this week

MUSCAT, JUNE 19

International ethical investment and social finance platform operator Ethis Group will formally launch its keenly-awaited EthisX crowdfunding platform on Thursday, June 23, 2022, heralding a new era in fin-tech-based crowdfunding services in the Sultanate of Oman.

The launch, set to take place at the College of Banking and Financial Services (CBFS) at Bausher, will be attended by top officials of the Capital Market Authority (CMA), SME Development Authority, and a number of local and international stakeholders and partner institutions.

Earlier in March this year, Kuala Lumpur — Malaysia headquartered Ethis Group became the first international operator to receive a licence from the Omani capital market regulator to provide crowdfunding services in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Group’s EthisX crowdfunding platform will allow companies to raise funds through equity crowdfunding (ECF) and peer-2-peer (P2P) financing that includes sukuk and micro-sukuk. As a first-of-its-kind cross-border Ethical Private Capital Marketplace, EthisX will also be able to offer direct shariah-compliant investments into SME companies and special purpose vehicle (SPV) projects from Oman and around the globe.

Thursday’s launch event will also feature a number of presentations focusing on the theme, ‘Entrepreneurship Haven: From Idea to Profit Through Crowdfunding’, according to Mohamed Shehzad bin Mohamed Islam, Chief Executive Officer of Ethis Investment Platform LLC (EIP).

“The main agenda is to officially launch EthisX in the Sultanate of Oman, introduce the concept of crowdfunding and bring together the major stakeholders supporting Oman’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. Our goal is to promote entrepreneurship in the Sultanate of Oman and particularly contribute towards enhancing the start-up and business funding ecosystem in the country. Accordingly, we have invited interested impactful entrepreneurs, passionate investors, government officials and prospective business partners, among others, to participate in this event”, he said.

In addition to an introduction to the EthisX crowdfunding platform by Mohamed Shehzad, there will be keynote addresses by top officials representing the SMEs Development Authority and the CMA. Mohammed bin Said al Abri, the Vice-President — Capital Market Sector of the CMA will also officiate at the EthisX launch.

A key highlight of the session is a panel discussion on the role of crowdfunding and fintech in supporting the Digital Oman Strategy and Oman Vision 2040. A second-panel discussion will focus on the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Sultanate of Oman. Two prominent local start-ups, Thawani and Sehatek Advanced Medical Care will also share their respective journeys.
