Fazah Castle is an archaeological monument in the wilayat of Liwa. It is located between the foothills of the village of Fazah, one of the mountain villages in the wilayat. On the right side of the village, visitors can see a magnificent tower of the 17th century, that attracts visitors. To reach the castle, one has to pass through the narrow roads of palm groves, Ghaf trees and surrounding houses.
The castle is one of the old castles built in the late seventeenth century and was used for defence and protection. It consists of three floors and a control tower. The castle has 12 rooms used for different purposes. The ground floor has four rooms, stores and guest room. There is an eight-kilometre tunnel linking the castle with the village of Dhab’een, which has a long history associated with it and also has very old observation towers.
When you reach the roof of the castle you can see spectacular views of palm trees, farms and houses surrounding the castle, as well as mountainous terrain and their dark colour. The castle was maintained and restored in 2004 and the restoration work continued for two years, after which it was opened for visitors. The castle is currently used for official occasions, such as holidays where people gather every morning in front of the castle yard and exchange greetings and friendly conversations.
One can also see folk arts, such as Razha, in addition to eating local Omani food, including a local food named “Al Orsiya”. It is worth mentioning that the Village of Fazah in the wilayat of Liwa is about fifteen kilometres from the centre of the city, westward of Liwa roundabout, passing through many developmental projects in the wilayat, including the recently opened The Rehabilitation Centre for Children with Disabilities, Cultural Centre and Al Salam Sporting Club and Liwa Public Park, as well as Al Batinah Expressway to reach the Fazah village.
