Trip across Oman turns tragic for a family from Barka

Muscat: An Omani family from Barka suffered an untold tragedy when their car overturned on a stretch of the Adam – Haima road at noon on Sunday.

34-year-old Hajar Al Balushi was travelling with four children, Aseela (three), Al Muhlab (seven), Jalila (11) and Ahed (13), along with her brother, 24-year-old Abdul Rahman Al Balushi and their housemaid, from their home in Wilayat Barka in the north of the country, to the Dhofar region in the south.

Three of her children – Aseela, Muhlab, and Jalila, along with Abdul Rehman were pronounced dead when they were brought to Adam Hospital.

Hajar and her son Ahed suffered moderate injuries, and were shifted to Haima Hospital, added the Royal Oman Police.

However, the housemaid, who is in a critical condition, has been taken to Nizwa Hospital where doctors are trying to save her.

ROP confirmed that she needed to be airlifted to Nizwa, saying: “Police aviation has carried out the process of transporting an injured person to Nizwa Hospital, after a vehicle crash that resulted in the death of four citizens and injuries among (to) three others, from the same family, on the Adam – Haima road in the direction of the Dhofar Governorate.”

Meanwhile, the bodies of two missing Indian engineers were recovered from the Wilayat of Thumrait in Dhofar Governorate, after a search that lasted for six days.

The ROP said the Indians were employed as engineers for a local telecommunications company and were working on one of the telecom towers in the Al Shasr Prosecution related to the Wilayat of Thumrait on June 28, 2022, and contact with them was lost at 10 am on June 29, 2022.

“The Royal Air Force of Oman, the operations wing of the Royal Army and the Royal Oman Police, with the participation of citizens from the neighborhood searched for them until a call was received from one of the citizens on Saturday about finding them in the desert. The bodies were transferred to Sultan Qaboos Hospital in the City of Salalah.”

The ROP also added that the reason for their death may be due to the breakdown of their vehicle or being stuck in the sand, and they were unable to contact anyone after that, because there is no communication network in that area.
