MUSCAT: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has alerted that the chances of thundershowers will increase over most of the Sultanate of Oman on Sunday. The weather condition will stabilise gradually with chances of isolated rain over some governorates and potential isolated thundershowers over Al Hajar Mountains range and Dhofar Governorate on Monday.
The CAA has alerted all to take precautions during thunderstorms and to stay away from low laying areas. In addition, the CAA also advises all to avoid crossing wadis and avoid venturing into the sea during the aforementioned period.
ROAD TO WADI DARBAT CLOSED: Maj Tarik Awadh al Shanfari, staff member of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) Security Media, said that due to the current spell of heavy rains, leading the flooding of Wadi Darbat valley in the Governorate of Dhofar and, to ensure the safety of all those who frequent the area, the road leading to the Wadi Darbat Park was closed on Friday and that the carriageway will remain closed till further notice.
Al Shanfari added that the ROP is urging all citizens, residents and tourists in Dhofar to exercise caution when driving in the area, not to cross crossing flowing wadis and keep children away from flooded valleys.
The Wilayat of Taqah in the Governorate of Dhofar experienced varying degrees of heavy rains that lashed the niyabats of Jabjat, Madinat Al Haq and the urban centre of the wilayat.
The governorate’s skies are currently overcast with high and medium height cumulus clouds.
The Wilayat of Salalah also saw sporadic heavy rains that focused on coastal and hilly areas. — ONA
