Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has warned of several risks involved in sharing internet services with neighbours and may expose the owner to legal accountability.
TRA said in a statement: “Technical risks represented in the occurrence of interference in wireless networks and the impact on the speed and quality of service for the rest of the subscribers in the region.”
“The user is exposed to information security risks, as all data is vulnerable to misuse of the service for fraudulent practices and cyber crime.”
The authority added that this act may expose the owner to legal accountability in the event that the network is established without a license. In addition to the potential health risks where the devices have not been ascertained the safety of their use.
