Muscat: Readings of the latest weather charts and numeric predictions of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) point to the fact that the tropical depression forming in the Arabian Sea is changing course and heading northwest towards the Sea of Oman.
The precipitation is expected to make landfall over the next two days as it gradually dissipates near the Pakistan-Iran coastline.
CAA Meteorological Specialist Younis Hussain al Shizawi told Oman News Agency (ONA) that Oman is scheduled to experience varying degrees of heavy rains.
Early manifestations of the tropical depression will show this evening, with light to heavy rains due in the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah and later in the governorates of North Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah, said Al Shizawi.
He added that the impacts include the flowing of wadis and winds measuring 20 knots. The sea will be rough, with waves expected to reach 4 metres along the Arabian Sea and 2 metres along the Sea of Oman, he explained.
Al Shizawi pointed out that conditions are ripe that Monday rains will be more comprehensive and cover most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, notably North and South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah and Musandam—with chances for light to moderate rains throughout the regions.
