Inflation rate rises by 2.9 per cent in June

MUSCAT: The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 2.9 per cent in June 2022 compared to last year, the National Centre for Statistics and Information said.

Al Dakhiliyah Governorate ranked first in the inflation rate at 3.7 per cent, followed by the governorates of Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Sharqiyah at a rate of 3.3 per cent. The inflation rate in the Governorate of North Al Batinah reached 3.1 per cent, and the Dhofar Governorate 2.8 per cent, while the lowest inflation rate was in Muscat Governorate at 2.3 per cent.

The rise in inflation in June is attributed to increase in the prices of main groups, such as foodstuffs and non-alcoholic beverages by 6.1 per cent, education by 5.1 per cent, the transportation by 4.2 per cent, the health by 2.8 per cent, and the commodities and miscellaneous services by 1.7 per cent, culture and recreation by 1.5 per cent, restaurants and hotels by 1.2 per cent, furniture, fixtures, household equipment and usual household maintenance group by 0.9 per cent, clothing and footwear group by 0.8 per cent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group by 0.7 per cent, while the statistics showed a stable inflation rate in the communications group and the tobacco group at 0.0 per cent.

The NCSI data showed the oil and fat price index increased by 19.1 per cent, the fruit price index by 9.2 per cent, meat prices by 8.2 per cent, vegetable prices by 6.9 per cent, non-alcoholic beverages by 4.6 per cent, fish and seafood by 4.6 per cent, the prices of bread and cereals by 3.7 per cent, the prices of sugar, jam, honey and sweets by 1.8 per cent, the prices of milk, cheese and eggs by 1.8 per cent, and the prices of other foodstuffs by 1.7 per cent.
