Muscat – The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued a regulation to monitor the quality of telecommunication services in the country.

As per decision No. 108/2022, the chairman of the board of directors of TRA issued a regulation to monitor the quality of telecommunication services in Oman.

The new regulation, which serves licensed parties, comprises basic requirements needed to be endorsed by a licensed party to ensure the delivery of high-level services to the beneficiaries in line with international quality standards.

The regulation covers fixed broadband services, high applicability of Internet speeds for the announced services, and offers the licensed party a maximum of two years to harmonize its services. The regulation indicates the TRA’s role in gauging the quality of fixed and mobile telecom services rendered to end-users, notably through field surveys. It requires the licensed party to publish sufficient information about the quality of the services it offers to the public.

The decision also states that the licensee must announce the data speed for each fixed broadband service package (wired and wireless) and publish details of the quality of communications services, packages, and offers.

The licensee must submit reports on the established performance indicators of the quality of telecommunications services within a period not exceeding 30 days from the end of the monitoring period and must publish those reports in the form and within the period specified by TRA.

The licensee will be required to declare the data speed for each of the bandwidth packages – fixed broadband (wired and wireless), and it is also committed to providing high-speed data for broadband services.

The actual speed of the fixed wired broadband service provided to the beneficiary shall not be less than 90 percent of the maximum data speed limit announced by the licensee under the subscribed package.

The licensee must publish sufficient details about the quality of communication services and packages and the offers on its website, to ensure that the beneficiary is aware of the quality of the telecommunications services it provides.
