SALALAH: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Sabco Sports company have outlined the first edition of “Governorates Marathon” — which reflects the ministry’s keenness in encouraging the society to take up this sport and make it a ‘health and lifestyle’.
The details were made during a briefing held on Wednesday at Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment. The briefing was attended by officials, media personnel and members of the public interested in the sector of sports and youth.
Mohammed bin Ahmed al Amri, Director-General of Sports Activities at the Ministry, gave a speech in which he declared that the Governorates Marathon will kick off for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman. He noted that, besides being a local sports event, the Governorates Marathon will highlight Oman as a sports tourism destination.
The logo of the Governorates Marathon was screened during a visual display alongside the logo of Oman Broadband company, sponsor of the first edition of the event. Related contracts were signed by the three parties of the sports project. — ONA
