Al Dakhiliyah students shine at the Arab Parliament for the child

The students of Al Dakhiliyah were among the delegation of Sultanate of Oman at the Arab Parliament for the Child, hosted by the University of Sharjah in the UAE in July. They were among 77 delegates representing 17 Arab countries.

The Arab Parliament for the Child (APC) is part of the Arab League and is based in the UAE. This year’s theme was focused on food security.

Oman is keen on the participation of its students in various local, regional, and international forums, which will help them to hone their abilities and talents.

The children of Oman also made a presentation of Oman’s nature, customs, and traditions and its bright present. They distributed heritage gifts to the delegates.

The children of the Sultanate of Oman achieved a degree of excellence with honours in the “Arab Parliament Diploma for the Child for parliamentary work skills, the advanced level” programme, and the “professional diploma in developing the skills of supervisory and leadership work.

This programme aims to instill the values and principles of parliamentary work in children and prepare them to be future parliamentarians.

On his participation, student Elias bin Awad al Ma’ani said: “We finished the diploma programmes after six months. We learned many parliamentary skills. I extend my thanks to the Arab Parliament and the University of Sharjah.”

Qadas bint Abdullah al Riyami, Member of Parliament and Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Child Rights of the Parliament, said: “After six months of effort, we finished and acquired leadership and problem-solving skills and other parliamentary skills and tools from a specialised professor. We passed the programme in all its stages. My thanks go to the University of Sharjah, the Parliament’s General Secretariat, all my family members who supported me, and the supervisor of the children of Oman in Parliament.”

Student Abdulaziz bin Saud al Busaidy noted: “I am proud to participate with my colleagues from the children of the Sultanate of Oman in the fourth session of the Arab Parliament for the Child at the University of Sharjah, and for obtaining a degree of excellence with honours in the Diploma in Parliamentary Skills, which undoubtedly was of great benefit to us and we got to know many tools We have acquired various skills in leadership, democracy and speaking in parliamentary sessions.”

Muna bint Hamoud al Busaidy, a student Supervisor, said: “The role of the Arab Child Parliament in Sharjah includes forming a platform for children to express their needs and issues that result in recommendations that serve childhood in all Arab countries. They will be submitted to the Arab leaders. Among the most prominent activities of Parliament are scientific and training programmes, workshops, and recreational activities. The council aims to benefit from Arab experiences, introduce Arab children to each other, and exchange experiences and cultures.

“I participated in the fourth session as a supervisor for the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman. I was pleased with this participation because children gained self-confidence and boldness when speaking in expressing their opinions and points of view.”

Supervisor Said bin Ali al Awfi, accompanying the students, said: “The Arab Parliament for the Child has implemented a diploma in supervisory skills. It included leadership skills, management, decision-making, and communication under the supervision of professors specialised in this field. We attended the graduation ceremony held by the University of Sharjah for the participants in this programme. We were very pleased that the representatives of the children of the Sultanate of Oman obtained the degree of excellence with honours.”

The Arab Parliament Diploma for the Child for Parliamentary Work Skills Advanced Level Programme and the Professional Diploma Programme for Developing the Skills of Supervisory and Leadership Work Teams for Members of the Arab Parliament was prepared and implemented by the Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development at the University of Sharjah, with 110 training hours for each programme. It included introductions about the League of the Arab States and Arab parliamentary systems, skills in managing parliamentary committees, discussions and work teams, etiquette and protocols, writing minutes and parliamentary reports, and communication skills with the media.
