Muscat: Ministries and other government agencies announced safety measures and asked the people, especially those who are in the coastal areas of South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta, to follow precautions as the Sultanate of Oman braces for deep depression.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has decided to temporarily stop ferry services in the Wilayat Masirah due to bad weather. “Due to strong winds, high waves and fluctuations in weather, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has decided to stop the maritime traffic and the ferry transportation service to and from Masirah until the weather conditions improve,” a statement said.
Oman Meteorology issued an alert over flooding in low lying areas along the coast of the Arabian Sea due to the upcoming tropical depression. A video clip showed sea water entering the low areas on the coast of the Arabian Sea in the Wilayat of Mahout in the Al Wusta Governorate.
The Civil Aviation Authority said the public must follow its weather forecasts before venturing out into sea. It also mentioned that high waves may topple small boats. It asked people to postpone tourist trips and fishing until the sea condition improves.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources called on farmers, livestock breeders, beekeepers and fishermen in South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta to take the necessary precautions to ensure safety of their life and properties. It also called on everyone to stay away from dams and other water bodies.
The Royal Oman Police warned of low level of visibility on the Adam-Thamrait Road. One must take caution while driving and maintain adequate distance between vehicles. Frequent changing of lanes should be avoided except for necessity. Vehicle windows must be rolled up to prevent dust from entering and the headlights must be turned on
Everyone must adhere to any instructions or alerts issued by the competent authorities and not take risks and endanger the lives of others, the police said.
