Oman likely to move to UK's amber list

MUSCAT: The Sultanate is expected to be one of the countries that will be moved from the United Kingdom’s Red list to the amber list in the latest review, which is expected this week.

According to local media reports quoting the UK data analyst, the reviewed list will be announced be either on August 25 or 26, which will see more countries moving to the green and amber lists. Some green list countries might return to the amber list.

The UK Travel secretary is expected to make the announcement this week.

According to rules, if a traveler has been in a country or territory on the red list in the last 10 days, then he or she will be allowed to enter the UK if they are a British or Irish National, or you have residence rights in the UK.

Travellers from the amber list you must take a Covid test in the three days before you travel to England, book and pay for Covid-19 tests – to be taken after arrival in England, complete a passenger locator form

If fully vaccinated, they must take a Covid-19 test on or before day two.

Several Oman students enrolled in UK universities have been urging the government to move Oman from the red list as the Sultanate has a good vaccination rate and a relatively low number of cases.

The Civil Aviation Authority(CAA) on Monday said the travel ban on 18 countries, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh that were red-listed has been lifted. The decision will be effective from 12 pm on September 1, 2021.

The Supreme Committee had earlier extended the suspension of entry to the Sultanate until further notice for arrivals from the United Kingdom, Sudan, Brazil, Nigeria, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Tunisia, Libya, Argentina, Colombia and arrivals from any other country if they have passed through any of the aforementioned countries during the previous 14 days preceding their request to enter the Sultanate.
