Amid record production, Oman now exports liquefied natural gas (LNG) to around 20 countries globally, having added Greece to its list of importers most recently.
Earlier this week, Reuters reported that Britain has joined the list of countries importing Omani LNG. Britain will receive a rare shipment of Omani liquefied natural gas this month, as European countries seek to secure sufficient supplies of gas before winter. The growing list of destinations for Oman LNG also includes China, Japan, India, South Korea, Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore, US, Sri Lanka, Puerto Rico, Thailand, Bangladesh, UAE and Kuwait among others.
According to the latest statistics of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), Oman’s total exports to countries grew by 16.2 per cent by the end of June 2022. Despite an increase of only 6.3 per cent, China topped the list of Oman’s oil importing countries by the end of June 2022 with 123.10 million barrels. With a massive rise of 334.9 per cent, Japan recorded the highest increase in importing crude oil from Oman. This was followed by the India with a rise of 76.1 per cent, followed by South Korea at 50.6 per cent.
The NCSI statistics also pointed to the increase of average oil price till the end of June by 60.9 per cent at $90.4 per barrel compared to the same period in 2021. The Sultanate’s daily average production of crude oil rose by 9.7 per cent with 1.047 million barrels by end of June 2022 compared to 954,00 barrels in the same period in 2021. Nevertheless, condensate production fell by 2.1 per cent during this period.
Data also showed that total domestic production of natural gas (plus import) rose by 4.4 per cent till the end of June 2022, reaching 25.7 billion cubic metres, compared to 24.6 billion cubic metres during the same period in 2021.
