Motorists must be cautious while driving as rains and dust storms are likely in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Chance of convective clouds formation and isolated thundershowers over Al Hajar Mountains towards afternoon associated with fresh downdraft wind is expected on Tuesday, Wednesday and could include Thursday afternoon as per the weather forecast from the Oman Met Office.
On Monday morning Oman Met Office said there were chances for the formation of cumulus clouds and thunderstorms accompanied by active winds and hail storm on the Al Hajar Mountains and the neighbouring areas and Dhofar, which may extend to the interior deserts, the Al Dhahirah deserts and parts of the central deserts during the afternoon and evening.
They also indicated extension of local formations on the eastern and western Al Hajar Mountains and and about the movement south towards the deserts, with rainfall of varying intensity on parts of the North Al Sharqiyah and Al Dakhiliyah.
By afternoon the activity of local formations on the eastern and western Al Hajar Mountains had begun with rainfall of varying intensity, accompanied by the fall of hail in some wilayats of South Al Batinah. The Met Office said there would be opportunities for cloud formations to expand to the rest of the Al Hajar Mountains and neighbouring areas.
Meanwhile, the continuous wind activity had brought in the rising of dust in the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar especially the road connecting Adam and Salalah. The weather officials said during the day due to fresh wind the dust rising that began on Monday evening will continue until the next two days.
It was partly cloudy to cloudy skies along the coastal areas of Dhofar governorates and adjoining mountains with intermittent drizzle, occasionally isolated rain. Expected are chance of thundershower over desert areas of Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates in addition to chance of low clouds or fog at late night or early morning over parts of the coastal areas of Oman Sea and Arabian Sea.
Along the Arabian Sea winds are expected to be be southwesterly moderate to fresh. The forecast stated, “Along coastal areas it will be southeasterly to easterly light to moderate, while over rest of the governorates it will be southerly to southwesterly light to moderate and fresh over deserts and open areas of Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates with chances of blowing dust.”
Along the Arabian Sea coasts it is rough sea with maximum wave height of four metres and slight along rest of the coasts with maximum wave height of 1.25 metres.
The weather officials from Civil Aviation has cautioned that the visibility may reduce during rain and dusty winds.
