Muscat: Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) is participating in CIGRE Session 2022, taking place in Paris from August 28 to September 2 with the participation of 400 papers from all over the globe.

The conference witnesses the presence of a large number of senior officials from companies operating in the energy sector around the world in addition to a group of experts, engineers and those interested in the electrical energy field.

A delegation from OETC is taking part in CIGRE, which is held to discuss the latest trends in the energy sector, where the company participated in two technical papers.

Eng. Ayman Al-Nnamani, Planning Engineer, presented the first research paper entitled “Long-Term Demand Forecast for Oman Electricity Transmission System Master Plan (2020-2040)”, which explains the forecasts of demand for electricity in the Sultanate of Oman, taking into account the factors affecting the demand. It also explains the company’s methodology in analysing the challenges facing the electric power sector in terms of tariff reform, demand price flexibility, energy efficiency programmes, renewable energy sources and electric vehicles.

The second research paper is “Transmission Regulation: The Economic Regulation Applied for Oman Electricity Transmission Network” presented by Eng. Zahra Al-Rawahi, Regulatory Affairs Section Head, with the participation of Eng. Alaa Al-Kiyumi, Head of Revenue Assurance Department at Muscat Electricity Distribution Company.

The paper highlights the electricity sector regulations and the role of the Authority of Public Services Regulation to observe, monitor and evaluate the electricity market to ensure fair competition and provide services at reasonable prices and high quality, which contributes to attracting new investors to the energy sector.

On the sidelines of the congress, Eng. Omar Al Wahaibi, Nama Group CEO, Eng. Saleh Al Rumhi, CEO of Oman Electricity Transmission Company, and Dr Rashid Al Badwawi, Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs in OETC participated in the CEOs Forum held under the theme “Business Development in the Electric Power Industry”.

The forum discussed various topics related to the electric power industry and provided an opportunity for industry representatives to raise the challenges they face while introducing a range of solutions and innovations to address issues affecting the industry.

The International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), which was established in 1921 in Paris, is a global non-profit organisation concerned with the generation and transmission of electrical energy and aims to enhance cooperation and exchange of knowledge and expertise to develop electrical systems around the world.
