OETC signs MoU to boost technical cooperation

Muscat: Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), a member of Nama group, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN), a Portuguese company which operates in the transmission of electricity in high voltage in Portugal and transmission of high-pressure natural gas to boost work mechanisms, joint technical cooperation and knowledge sharing between the two companies in the field of transmission of electricity.   

With the participation of Eng. Omar Al Wahaibi Nama Group CEO, the MoU was signed by Eng. Saleh Al Rumhi, OETC CEO, and, it was signed by Rodrigo Costa, REN CEO. This memorandum aims to enhance cooperation between the two parties, to share knowledge, exchange experiences and best practices in the technical and technology field. The MOU also encourages cooperation in the field of sharing information and exchanging experiences and studies in Technical and Scientific development in the electricity transmission sector and the use of the 4th industrial revolution in the development and operation of electrical networks.

Commenting on the MoU, Eng. Saleh Al Rumhi OETC CEO stated, “Signing this MoU is an important step towards achieving the company’s vision to have a world-class smart transmission grid. We are confident that cooperation with REN will contribute to upgrading the Sultanate electricity transmission grid by benefiting from the REN’s experience in this field. In addition, “according to the MoU, the two parties will cooperate to carry out training activities in fields related to electricity transmission, studies and research as well as arrange for visits of professionals from both Parties. Each party may also seek experts’ assistance of the other party,” Al Rumhi said.

It is worth mentioning, that OETC is the responsible company for the transmission and dispatch of electricity in the northern Sultanate’s network and also in the Governorate of Dhofar, where electricity is transferred from generations’ stations to distributed load centres in all governorates of the Sultanate. The transmission network operates at a voltage of 132 kV and above to cover most governorates of the Sultanate, whether in the north or the south.
