Oman women riders train hard for Jordan tent pegging

Muscat, Sept 6

Oman women’s national team for tent pegging continues its intensive training for the second week in preparation to take part in the international women’s tent pegging championship ‘Grand Prize’, which will be hosted by Jordan during September end.

The championship is expected to see participation of 28 women representing 14 countries namely Sultanate of Oman, Jordan, Sudan, Russia, Belarus, Britain, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Norway, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.

Oman team consists of Ghanima bint Abdullah al Shukailiyah, Turkiya bint Mahmoud al Balushiyah and Amal bint Abdullah al Maskariyah. Mohammed bin Salim al Malki is the team manager while Hilal bin Hassan al Balushi is the team coach.

Ahmed bin Saif al Abri, Secretary-General and Chairman of the Competitions Committee of the Oman Equestrian Federation (OEF), said, “the federation has completed preparations for the tournament, which is supervised by the International Federation for Tent Pegging and organised by the Royal Jordanian Equestrian Federation.”

“The federation has selected the contestants according to efficiency and based on the results in the last season, as this tournament is similar in its system to the international tournament for tent pegging that was held in Duqm. Only two riders and a reserve will compete in the championship. The OEF has completed the selection process and assigned Hilal bin Hassan al Balushi as coach of the team. The team started the internal camp since last week at Al Rahba Farm in Barka, and still continuing until the date of its travel to Jordan,” he added.
