Vaccination must for travellers

Vaccination must for travellers

The Supreme Committee on Tuesday vaccination against Covid-19 is must for all travellers coming to the Sultanate. The announcement comes as the nation prepared to lift air travel curbs on Wednesday and the fight against the pandemic touched a milestone of 61 new cases and just one death in the last 24 hours. Only nine people were admitted to hospitals.

Oman also got a shot in the arm when it received 86,400 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through COVAX. COVAX is a global initiative co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi (the Vaccines Alliance) and the World Health Organization

Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health, said: “In line with the national strategy for the purchase and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines, we are pleased to receive the new batch of AstraZeneca Covid-19 via the COVAX initiative. The delivery of this important shipment is part of a series of arrivals to continue the vaccination campaign. We are delighted to see positive outcomes as we continue to make Covid-19 vaccines available to the public.”

The Supreme Committee said all arrivals must abide by the measures set to curb the spread of the virus. “We will follow-up on the epidemiological situation in all countries, and we will take appropriate decisions in accordance with these developments.”

The SC added that the institutional quarantine will continue to be applicable to all people coming to the Sultanate from Iraq and Iran, including Omani citizens, until further notice.

For the first time since April, there will be 100 per cent attendance in all government sectors and institutions from Wednesday.

Vaccination is mandatory for entry into government and private establishments with measures already being put in place by the human resources and security departments.

All employees and visitors to the public sector offices will have to present vaccination certificates through the Tarassud application.

Commercial establishments, including restaurants have put in place the necessary controls as per the Supreme Committee directives, apart from the existing measures such as offering sanitisers, mandatory wearing masks and temperature checks.

While Oman has lifted the ban on arrivals from all countries, it has not been moved from the United Kingdom’s Red List to the amber list in the latest review. The next review of the list is expected to be announced on September 15 or 16.
