MUSCAT: Oman’s Rashid al Balushi was appointed as the safety delegate (trainee) by the global motorsports body FIA in Acropolis Rally in Greece during the 10th round of World Rally Championship from September 9 to 11.
This appointment is a kind of appreciation to talented people from Oman, where they proved previously their skills in organising big events as technical managers and safety delegations adding to the ability to work under pressure and in different conditions.
Rashid has been appointed by FIA previously as safety delegate since 2019 in Oman International Rally, which is one of the rounds of Middle East Rally Championship. The Omani official was also safety delegate in Qatar International Rally, Jordan International Rally, Kuwait International Rally and Lebanon International Rally, where he gained a lot of experience.
The chance to represent FIA in Greece Acropolis rally as the safety delegate trainee has come in recognition of Rashid’s wide experience in the area.
He said: “I am very delighted and happy to represent Oman in this international event as the first from Oman and GCC to attend such a big and prestigious event.”
“I gained a lot of knowledge and experience about the functioning of WRC, its role and preparations and hope that in future I will impart this knowledge to my colleagues in Oman.”
“I express my gratitude to everyone who supported me to be here in Greece in this WRC event. I hope to be part of the organising committee in any international rally also,” he added.
