11 races in RCC programme for new season

Muscat, Sept 13

The Royal Court Affairs, represented by the Royal Camel Corps (RCC), announced the 20th edition of the annual festival programme for private camel racing for the 2022-2023 season on Tuesday.

The programme includes 11 races distributed across the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

The camel racing season will start at the end of September 2022, and will conclude in the middle of March 2023. The schedule contains 8 races, two festivals for the camel beauty and one festival will be for traditional race ‘Al Ardah’.

Wilayat of Adam in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate will host the first race at Al Bashayer camel racing track on September 28 and 29. The second race is also at the same track crowd on October 19 and 20.

The third event will be for camel beauty and camel’s milk competitions in Dhofar Governorate in the Wilayat of Thamrait, from October 28 to November 3.

The fourth race will be in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi on November 9 and 10 and the fifth race will be for traditional camel racing in Al Batinah South Governorate at Barka camel racing track from November 27 to 30. The sixth race will be on December 7 and 8 in Al Batinah North Governorate at Sohar Camel Racing Track. The same track will host the seventh race on December 28 and 29.

With the beginning of the new year, the eighth race will be held in Barka in Al Fulaij Square from January 10 to 12, 2023. The same track will host the ninth race from January 24 to 26. The second camel beauty festival will be the 10th event from January 29 to February 2 at Al Fulaij Square in Barka.

The Royal Camel Corps will conclude the camel season during March 13-16 with a big festival, including the grand prize which is Sultan Cup and SUV cars.

In the last edition, the concluding race was under the auspices of Salem bin Mustahail al Maashani, Adviser at the Diwan of Royal Court, when he crowned the Sultan Cup to Al Bashayer camel ‘Al Asmah’, owned by HH Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan.
