Al Seer village in Wadi Al Sahtan in the Wilayat of Rustaq in the Governorate of South Al Batinah is an ancient archaeological village, 30 kilometres from the centre of the wilayat. It is known for its beautiful scenery and moderate climate in summer and cold in winter, in addition to the contrast of terrain and geological composition of the surrounding mountains.
Dr Hamad al Dhuli, a researcher in history, says that the village of “Al Seer” is located at the bottom of the summit of Jabal Shams on the side of Wadi Al Sahtan, and it is bordered to the east by the village of “Al Bushouq”, from the northwest by the village of “Al Houb”, and from the south by the village of “Ula”. You can have access to this village through the road Mountain, walking for a distance of four kilometres from the last stop the car reaches in “Al Houb”.
He added that in the village, there are ancient ruins of houses and a mosque that needs some restorations. There is also a special basin for bathing in the wintertime made of plaster, with two openings, the first for putting firewood and making a fire to heat the water, and the second for the water faucet on one side basin.
There are agricultural terraces covered by palm trees, pomegranates, boot, Sidr, lemons, quince, and bananas, and these crops are watered by a falaj flowing from the slopes of the mountains surrounding the village. the water of the falaj gathers in a pond called “Al Lajel” around which a number of inscriptions and drawings were found, including the image of a knight riding a horse was apparently painted with the Omani sarooj type of clay.
He explained that there are some traces that indicate that Sayyid Faisal bin Hamoud bin Azzan al Busaidy lived in this village for periods of his life, and among these monuments is his solid house that is standing still to this day despite the various erosion factors.
an ancient inscription carved on one of the rocks that was used for the construction of this house was found. Those words were written on the rock: “When we reached the village, Faisal bin Hammoud built his palace in Rabee Al Thani of 308 AH. And another one: Sayyid Faisal coming to Wadi Al Sahtan in 1290 AH, and this is the oldest date we found in a place called “Al Madhiq”.
As for the documents, there are two documents, the first of which is with a family in Wadi Al Sahtan, which is a correspondence between his grandparents and Sayyid Faisal, dated 1302 AH, and the second is a letter from Sayyid Faisal, who was in the village of “Al Seer” to Sheikh Zahran bin Mohammed bin Zahran al Abri in the Wilayat of Al Hamra on Shawwal, 3, 1305 AH.
The researcher indicated that there is printed poems that mention the village of Al Seer and the settlement of Sayyid Faisal bin Hamoud al Busaidy there in some periods of his life.
Apart from its historical importance, the village is the perfect place for recreation in the lap of calm nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
