MUSCAT: The Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), represented by the Humanitarian Research Center, on Wednesday announced nine winning research projects, within the Research Programme, to empower people with disabilities for the current year.
Funded by the Development Institution of Oman LNG, the programme aims to achieve sustainable and solid development that ensures the future of the society’s individuals, especially the disabled category, and safeguard their active contributions to scientific research and innovation.
In the field of computer programmes and technological applications, Dr Ali bin Mahdi bin Kadhim won for his research “The Effectiveness of an Electronic Application in Developing Language Skills for Autistic People in the Sultanate”, and Dr Mun Fai Chan for his research project “The Effects of Virtual Reality Training on Upper Limb Motor Recovery for Stroke Patients”.
The first version of the programme witnessed a fair competition. The winning projects were distinguished for the quality and authenticity of research ideas from various humanitarian fields.
The winning projects were consistent with the research programme, which supports software innovation, computer applications, training curricula to rehabilitate the people with disabilities.
It also supports research studies related to the rehabilitation and training of human cadres working with people with disabilities, which help reduce genetic disabilities. — ONA
