Muscat: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) signed six Memorandums of Cooperation (MoC) to support a host of new projects worth USD 2.2 million within its Social Investment programme.

The new project will benefit local communities and boost sustainable development across the Sultanate of Oman. The signing ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health. The initiatives include key areas in the fields of health, safety and the environment (HSE), community infrastructure development as well as enhancing the education sector. To encourage the provision of the best medical services across the country, PDO will fund the purchase of medical devices for the Royal Hospital’s capacity.

PDO also committed to support the Oman Hereditary Blood Disorders Association’s (OHBDA) activities for the year 2022/2023. As part of this agreement, the Company is creating a mobile application to facilitate blood donation, while also funding medical training for health workers, purchase of syringe drivers, and joint replacement surgeries. PDO External Affairs and Value Creation Director Abdul Amir Abdul Hussein Al Ajmi said: “PDO continues to expand its Social Investment programme to support the communities.” “Our dedication and support are aimed at meeting community needs by providing critical facilities and services in areas such as health, safety, environment and cultural preservation.

“We will thrive only if the communities in which we work prosper, and these initiatives will undoubtedly empower residents and contribute to the sustainable development of Omani communities.” In line with PDO’s pathway to sustainability, the company is funding the construction of a central nursery for Al Wusta Governorate associated with developing the infrastructure and setting up a fence. The project will supply seedlings to PDO’s concession area and contribute towards its efforts for carbon credits. PDO is also funding the construction of two public parks in Al Ghubra North and Al Ghubra South in the Wilayat of Al Jazir.

These parks will provide intrinsic environmental, aesthetic, and recreational benefits to the concession areas and create four job opportunities. Moreover, to support STEM education, PDO will sponsor a programme which aims to teach science subjects in an interactive way that boosts creativity and supports innovation skills.

The programme will cover eleven schools in the concession area and will include the provision of the curriculum, materials for science classes, audio-visual technology equipment and lab furniture. In addition, and as part of the ongoing programme funded by PDO to increase the number of classrooms in twelve schools within PDO’s concession area, an additional number of classrooms will be built in Najid school in the Wilayat of Thamrit and Kuboot School in Shaleem.
