A collection of poems written by Tobi Salins, who has worked as a senior journalist in the Sultanate of Oman for the past 14 years, has been released.
The book, ‘Urangatha Janala’ meaning the window that never sleeps, written in his native Malayalam language, contains 72 poems and captures life vividly on a wide range of themes: from the nostalgic recollections of an expatriate to the travails of human beings during the Covid pandemic.
The book was released by Loka Kerala Sabha member and well-known social activist Wilson George at a function organised by Kairali Vayanasala in Muscat on Tuesday. Indian Social Club’s Kerala Wing convener Santhosh Kumar presided over the meeting. Literary wing coordinator K V Vijayan, author and teacher Radhakrishna Kurup were among those who offered felicitations. Kerala Wing co-convener Nitheesh Kumar proposed a vote of thanks.
Noted writer Haroon Rasheed made a scholarly review of Tobi’s poems on the occasion, delving deep into their salient features. A good number of literary enthusiasts attended the function.
Tobi leaves Oman Daily Observer this month after serving as a senior editor of the English newspaper for 12 years. During his journalistic career spanning over three decades, Tobi has held senior positions in various newspapers both in India and Oman.
Prior to joining Oman Daily Observer, he had served Oman Tribune for two years. He started off his career in the New Indian Express, which he quit as Chief Sub-Editor 16 years later.
