SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost carrier, signed on September 29, 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brazil’s Embraer to purchase 12 all-new Embraer 195 ITU aircraft for use at Oman’s domestic and regional airports.

This came during the ceremony organised by SalamAir under the auspices of Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

Captain Mohamed Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of SalamAir, explained that the presentation included a review of the most important achievements and positive results achieved by the company during the past five years, in terms of the number of passengers, cargo traffic and the number of stations that connected Muscat directly to a number of regional and international airports. He also reviewed future plans over the next five years.

He added in a statement to the Oman News Agency: “The offer also included the economic and tourism revenues achieved by the company in activating the tourist movement and employing, training and qualifying Omani youth, pointing out that SalamAir contributed to the GDP of the Sultanate of Oman by RO 1.100 billion.”

He pointed out that the receipt of the 12 aircraft will start from November 2023 with 3 aircraft, and 3 more aircraft in 2024, with the rest of the aircraft to be received in the following years.

He explained that the Embraer 195 iTu model is completely different from the existing aircraft in terms of its capacity of up to 135 seats, and that it is environmentally friendly and low cost.
