MUSCAT: With an aim to improve the quality of health services, the Bausher Specialised Polyclinics (BSP) has introduced a number of advanced laboratory equipment that keeps pace with the expansion of a number of medical specialties, associated with accurate examinations.
Dr Hanan Abdullah al Mahrouqi, Senior Consultant Family Physician and Head of Bausher Specialised Polyclinic, said: “The BSP has witnessed a great development since its opening in October 1993. The Ministry of Health (MoH) has regulated and classified health care into primary care services provided by health centres across all wilayats, and secondary services provided by appointment system- operated polyclinics”.
“The polyclinic also witnessed an expansion in specialized services, along with the primary care services (general medicine) it provided before, which included a general clinic for women and men with some limited specialties such as paediatrics, dentistry, otolaryngology, and specialty Ophthalmology, dermatology, and limited services in radiology, laboratories and the pharmacy”, she added.
With additional expansions, the BSP, nowadays, offers therapeutic and diagnostic services. It includes orthopaedics, plastic surgery, kidney surgery, kidney post-transplant, obstetrics and gynaecology, physiotherapy, specialised dental services, nutrition, foot care, as well as an asthma clinic, endocrinology and Down Syndrome Clinic as a rich addition to the pediatric specialty.
There is also internal medicine, which includes clinics for chronic diseases such as diabetes, respiratory diseases, thyroid gland, obesity and fluidity.
She pointed out that the polyclinic operates around the clock. The services provided are divided into two types. There are the specialized services, which are provided during the official working days, and the emergency services, which are provided daily, including official holidays.
Nearly 140,000 people availed the BSP services during the past two years. However, as a result of the repercussions of the pandemic, the number of visitors declined as the polyclinic could serve only 90,000 people.
