Jordan King’s visit to open vistas of development

MUSCAT: Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, expressed his hope that the visit of King Abdallah II of the Kingdom of Jordan, to the Sultanate of Oman, starting today will contribute to commercial exchange, investment and cooperation in different fields.

In a statement to Oman News Agency, Al Yousef said that Oman-Jordan relations are accorded special attention by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and King Abdallah II. These relations, he said, are undergoing constant growth in all areas.

The minister added that Oman-Jordan Joint Committee is discussing mechanisms for upgrading cooperation in economic, commercial and investment fields to meet the aspirations of their peoples.

Al Yousef pointed out that the volume of commercial exchange between Oman and Jordan grew by 33.8 per cent to RO 61.855 million in 2021, compared to RO 46.236 million in 2020.

In Oman, the number of Jordanian business reached a total of 621 operating in various sectors like trade, services, industry and constructions.

Meanwhile, Eng Ridha bin Juma al Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), said that the visit of King Abdallah II of the Kingdom of Jordan, will boost the establishment of joint projects, enhance relation-building between the Omani and Jordanian businessmen and activate agreements and memoranda of understanding signed by the Sultanate of Oman and Jordan.

In comments to ONA, he noted that the Sultanate of Oman and Jordan have many advantages that are supportive and conducive to prosperous investment and partnership. He noted that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries stood at $160.6 million in 2021 compared to $120.1 million registered in 2020.

The number of Jordanian companies registered with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion reached 465, in which Jordan contributed more than $1 billion. These firms are distributed in several sectors, including trade, construction, transportation, industry, among others. — ONA
