OVA elects officials for vacant posts

The general assembly members of Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) elected for the vacant seats of the board for the period (2022-2024) on Wednesday after resignation of three members. The election took place during an extraordinary assembly general meeting at the Grand Hayat Hotel in Muscat in presence of 22 members out of 23 members.

The attending members were from Seeb, Sohar, Oman club, Ahli Sidab, Bahla, Saham, Majees, Dhofar, Al Kamil W’al Wafi, Salalah, Masirah, Al Nasr, Al Bashayer, Al Suwaiq, Al Shabab, Al Musannah, Al Khabourah, Al Ittifaq, Al Salam, Al Oruba, Qurayat and Ibri.

The vice-chairman post was won by Saham’s candidate Mohammed bin Marhoon al Maamari in the second round of voting as he received 10 votes while Arif Nasser (Al Shabab) got three votes and Said bin Mubarak al Buraiki (Al Khabourah) received eight votes. In the first round, the votes of all the candidates did not reach to the required votes of 10.

For the treasurer post, Farid bin Ramadhan al Balushi from Oman club was the only nominee and he was elected as the new treasurer of the board.

Aisha al Jabri claimed the women’s mandatory seat in the board.

In the board member post, there were three candidates who were competing on one vacant seat including Issa al Qasabi (Bahla), Abdullah al Falahi (Al Ittifaq) and Khamis al Hashmi (Al Ittifaq). Issa al Qasabi from Bahla club was elected as the new board member with 11 votes while Khamis al Hashmi received three votes and Abdullah al Falahi had six votes.

Eng Ibrahim al Maqbali, Chairman of OVA, congratulated all the new elected members in the board. “We would like to congratulate all the new board members for getting the confidence of general assembly to be elected for the remaining period of this board until 2024. Special thanks to the election committee for their efforts since two months. We are affirming that the board will work hard towards development of volleyball sport and improvement of the national teams,” he said.
