LONDON: The Anglo-Omani Society (AOS) held its annual party in the presence of dignitaries and businesspersons from the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom.
Eng Said bin Hamood al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, affirmed that the Oman Logistics Centre is fundamental in placing the Sultanate of Oman as a sustainable global logistic hub which is part and parcel of the Sultanate of Oman Logistics Strategy 2040 and an enabler for realising this objective using the most advanced technologies to boost the employment rate of national workforce and provide support to the logistic sector.
Delivering a speech at the event, the minister said that Oman Logistics Strategy 2040 aims at enhancing the logistics sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) at actual value, generating job opportunities, improving various performance indicators of the Sultanate of Oman and placing the Sultanate of Oman as a global and regional logistics hub.
Among the main areas of Oman Logistics Strategy 2040 is the focus on international agreements that would enhance the performance of the logistics sector in the Sultanate of Oman in general and improve the national indicators of the Sultanate of Oman, with Oman Logistics Centre striving to boost the logistical performance indicators of the Sultanate of Oman at the international level and match it with the Strategy’s visions and ambitions, the minister said.
On his part, Richard Stanford, Chairman of AOS, emphasised the strength of the historical bilateral relations binding the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom and the continuing cooperation in the political, commercial, technical and military fields.
Stanford spoke about the volume of the British investments in the Sultanate of Oman specially in the fields of energy, education and technology, noting that the Sultanate of Oman has made great strides towards becoming a technologically advanced country though establishing the foundation of the digital society and setting up a modern information technology and communications sector. He added, last year the Sultanate of Oman launched the National Digital Economy programme which targets to boost the sector’s contribution to the GDP from 2 per cent to 10 per cent and expedite digital transformation in the public and the private sectors.
Al Maawali met British businesspersons in a bid to consolidate economic and investment relations between the two friendly countries. — ONA
