As the Sultanate of Oman marks Women’s Day on October 17, it is important to note that the country has a sizable section of working women.

Over 47 per cent of Omani women in the public sector are insured with pension funds and of these 12.3 per cent are subject to wages of between RO 325 and RO 500 as of July this year.

Of the total 81,599 women, 1,146 get salaries above RO 2,000, 23,591 get between RO 1,000 and RO 2,000 while 16,032 get between RO 800 and RO 900.

Most women employed in the public sector are in the age group of 35-39 years, followed by those in the age group 40-44 and the age group 30-34.

As for Omani jobseekers, most of them are in the age groups 15-24 and 25-29, and they also have general diplomas or bachelor’s degrees.

Speaking to the Observer, a cross-section of women colleagues and friends said that it is an opportunity to pay respect to all women in their individual lives.

From working to support families to caring for children plus being a source of primary or secondary livelihood, the achievements of Omani women in the national building are just remarkable.

“Today, we have Omani CEOs, ministers, and several middle-to top-level executives who will continue to play a key role in shaping the future of this country.”

According to the latest statistics, 49.5 per cent of 729,331 students in government schools are girls.
