Omani skies to see solar eclipse next week

Muscat: Oman Astronomical Society (OAS) has said that a partial solar eclipse will prevail over Omani skies on Tuesday, October 25.

Speaking about the phenomenon, Al Julanda Masoud al Rawahi, Head of the Social Communication Committee at OAS, said that the partial solar eclipse will begin at 14.50—local time Oman, peak at 15.57 and dissipate at 16.58. This means that the partial solar eclipse will last 2 hour and 7 minutes.

Acting in cooperation with the astronomical affairs department at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, the OAS will organize events related to public observation of the partial solar eclipse. The details will be unveiled later via the OAS social communication accounts, he added

The OAS cautioned against direct sighting of the Sun when being partly eclipsed (by the Moon). It advised members of the public who wish to monitor the phenomenon not to look at the Sun with the naked eye, since this might cause damage to the retina.
