Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) signed on Tuesday, October 18, nine memoranda of cooperation with several parties in an official ceremony held under the auspices of Eng Badr bin Salem al Maamari, Secretary General of the Oman Tender Board, in addition to the presence of Sayyida Maani bint Abdullah al Busaidi, Director General of the Family Growth Department at the Ministry of Social Development, and Shaikh Musallam bin Ahmed al Hadari, Wali of Thamrait. The agreements, signed at the PDO Knowledge World venue in Muscat, cover a commitment in funding support totaling $4 million.
To encourage the provision of the best medical services across the Sultanate of Oman, PDO is supporting the construction of the new Mudhi Health Center in the Wilayat of Thamrait, which serves 40 patients per day. It is also financing the purchase of medical equipment for the Royal Hospital and Al Halaniyat Health Center.
In line with the company’s commitment to supporting the education sector in its concession area, the company signed an agreement to provide laboratory computers to Al Maaref and Al Kuhl schools in the wilayats Haima and Al Jazer. More than 558 students will benefit from these computers, which will contribute to improving the quality of education.
PDO Director of External Affairs and Value Creation Abdul-Amir bin Abdul-Hussein al Ajmi said: “Today’s signatures follow the company’s well-established practices in supporting local communities by investing in sustainable development projects. This and other social investment projects arising from the partnership between the company and various government stakeholders have been endorsed by the Social Investment Committee and are a testament to the company’s dedication to supporting the prosperity of local communities.”
Other agreements include the purchase of a new bus for the Al Noor Association for the Blind and the financing of the Ibtikar Club for a childcare center in Muscat.
To encourage the adoption of sports and healthy lifestyles in Oman, PDO s sponsoring the Himam Trail Run, which attracts more than 500 participants from 40 countries.
Furthermore, PDO will finance the renovation of the camel-racing track in Seih Al Arad in the Wilayat of Bahla, and the construction of a 1.6 km track in Hamra Duru in the Wilayat of Ibri, both of which will benefit 118 villages and more than 6,000 beneficiaries.
