Youths constitute 19.4 per cent of Omani population

Muscat: The nation celebrated Omani Youth Day on Wednesday, which falls on October 26 of each year. According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information, 19 per cent of Omani population is constituted by youths aged between 18 and 29 years.

13,452 Omani youths owned housing units during 2021.

According to SME development Authority, around 572 out of 25,057 people registered in its database are youths who own small and medium enterprises, including about 13,474 who hold an entrepreneurship card.

268 of youth are registered in the Suppliers and Business Opportunities Registration Programme for Small and Medium Enterprises. In addition, there are 4,687 young craftsmen.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik emphasised the importance of youth when he said: “Youth are the wealth of a nation, its inexhaustible resource and the arms that build it. They are its present and future. We will always listen to them, and sense their needs, interests and aspirations which will definitely be accorded the attention that they deserve. We stand today with firm invincible will on the threshold of a vital stage of development and nation building. It is a stage in which you all have participated in drawing out its prospects in Oman Vision 2040, and contributed to devising its economic, social and cultural goals, in a manner that embodies a clear-cut vision, great expectation towards a more prosperous future. We are all aware of the challenges imposed by the current global conditions, and their implications to the region and to us, since we are part of this world, influencing it and are influenced by it. We will also accord full attention and support to develop a comprehensive national framework of recruitment, considering it one of the fundamental pillars of the national economy.”

The Omani Youth Day is a belief in the great role of youth in the advancement of nations and to celebrate their contributions to the country.

The Omani youth have proven their efficiency in many fields by bagging many international achievements and awards.

Oman Vision 2040 is a national roadmap aimed at activating the role of Omani youth to achieve economic and social growth of the country and to support their role in science, literature and sports.

In October, Oman celebrates two glorious days: Omani Women’s Day and Omani Youth Day. It has spared no effort to create a culture to encourage young people to learn, work, educate and tap their energies to make their dreams come true.
