Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has affirmed its support for the International Court of Justice and other relevant international courts and legal bodies, according to jurisdiction, aimed at resolving and settling disputes between countries by peaceful means as set out in the Charter of the United Nations.
This came in the Sultanate of Oman’s speech during the UN General Assembly’s discussion on the report of the International Court of Justice delivered by Second Secretary Mohammed bin Ali Al Shehhi of Oman’s permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York.
The Sultanate of Oman drew attention to what was stated in the Basic Statute of the State on the rule of law, observance of international and regional charters and treaties, and the rules of international law, which are consistent with the provisions and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
The Sultanate explained that the existence of the International Court of Justice is one of the pillars of the global system based on the provisions and principles of international law, and it has proven over the past years the ability and integrity in the performance of the mandate entrusted to it, which made it the object of the confidence of states, through the rulings and fatwas issued by it, which strengthened the rule of law over international level.
