MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced that no cases of coronavirus variant XBB were reported in the Sultanate of Oman despite being widespread in some countries.
Dr Said al Abri, Director-General of Disease Surveillance and Control at MoH, said that the ministry is carrying out genetic sequencing tests for coronavirus variants but no cases of XBB variant have been reported while the registration of Omicron cases continued in the Sultanate of Oman. He affirmed that the vaccines for Covid-19 and seasonal influenza are available at the health institutions.
Al Abri called for commitment to the precautionary measures to avoid infection with the Covid-19 and the seasonal flu by wearing a face mask and avoid mingling with people in public places in the case of respiratory infection. He confirmed that the seasonal influenza vaccine is available for the people at high risk of disease and those aged 50 years and above as well as the unvaccinated and people who have not completed Covid-19 doses. He advised all to be cautious against the relatively harmless seasonal flu viruses nowadays spreading fast due to the shift in temperatures.
