Excitement builds as Spartan Race heads to Muscat this December

Muscat: The world’s most popular obstacle races, the Spartan Race, is returning to the capital for the 2022 Muscat Trifecta Weekend. The result of a partnership between Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group) and Spartan Arabia, the 2022 Muscat Trifecta Weekend will take place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) as part of the Oman World Cup Programme on 16 and 17 December. This is the second of two Spartan races, with the first being recently held in Salalah.

The countdown has already begun for the Spartan race in Muscat, titled the ‘2022 Muscat Trifecta Weekend’, which will take place at the OCEC on 16 and 17 December as part of the Oman World Cup Programme. As with the Salalah Race, the one in Muscat will also be aimed at both individuals and families. It will feature several independent races, including the Spartan Sprint – 5 km (20 obstacles), the Spartan Super – 10 km (25 obstacles), the Spartan Beast – 21 Km (30 obstacles) and the return of the 4-hour Hurricane Heat – a team-based endurance event. There will also be three Spartan Kids races exclusively for children aged 4-14 years.

The CEO of the OMRAN Group, Hashil bin Obaid Al Mahrouqi, commented on the race, saying, “The success of the recently held Spartan Race in Salalah and the hype already building up for the race in Muscat is a clear indication of Oman’s potential as an adventure and sports tourism destination. It also illustrates the strength of our partnership with Spartan Arabia and exemplifies our commitment to promoting Oman as an adventure and sports tourism destination. Moreover, such partnerships enable us to diversify our tourism products and further strengthen the tourism sector’s role in achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040.”

The Spartan Salalah Race was organised on 14 October 2022 with the support of the Dhofar Municipality. It received an overwhelming response and attracted more than 1,300 adventure and challenge lovers from across the region. It also saw over 900 athletes testing the limits of their endurance on a gruelling obstacle course adjacent to Ad Dahariz Beach.

Rayyan Yacob Agha, Managing Director of Spartan Arabia, said, “Spartan races are designed to be not only challenges of strength and endurance but also tests of one’s resolve and attitude towards life. Therefore, we carefully select locations such as Ad Dahariz Beach in Salalah and the tactical terrain surrounding the OCEC. Their unique topography and environment allow us to push these athletes to the limit. Completing the race is a challenge in and of itself, and all participants and race winners of Spartan Salalah deserve our sincere congratulations. Both fans and participants can certainly look forward to an even more challenging race at the December event in Muscat.”

Registrations for the Muscat race are now open, and those interested can do so via Spartan’s website https://arabia.spartan.com.

The OMRAN Group continues to work with a variety of local, regional and international institutions and authorities to identify priority projects and opportunities that can contribute to the development of the tourism industry in Oman. This is part of its commitment to improving and enriching the tourism experience offered in the country.
