Masirah Oil produces 3,678 barrels/day in October

Gross oil production from the Yumna Field in Block 50 offshore 50 Oman reached an average of 3,678 stock tank barrels per day (stb/d) in October 2022, according to latest statement of Masirah Oil Limited (MOL). The oil production in October is 32.81 per cent less than its production in September, which amounted to 5,474 stock tank barrels per day. The decline in October production was caused by 7 days of either no production or restricted production during the positioning of the jack-up rig and driving of conductor pipe in preparation for the scheduled drilling., it said.

In addition, Yumna-3 was shut down for the last 5 days of October when workover activities began to replace the electrical submersible pump (ESP) of the well. The workover of Yumna-3 has continued into November, the statement added.

In Q3 FY2022, Masirah Oil spent $11.04 million for exploration and production related activities in Oman. The actual amount of funds used for exploration and production activities in Oman was $1.64 million higher than the projected amount in Q2. The higher actual amount was mainly due to additional costs incurred in relation to the repair and replacement of a faulty Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) and a damaged flowline.

Production in the Yumna Field resumed on August 5, 2022 after the damaged flowline was replaced due to a minor leakage.

Meanwhile, Masirah Oil said, “The change-outs of the floating storage tanker and Mobile Offshore Production Unit (MOPU) were necessary and will serve until the end of Yumna Field’s life. Notwithstanding regular maintenance, the operational issues caused by the faulty Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) and flowline were unforeseen and unfortunately, extended the production stoppage time as MOL needed to first to identify the problems and then rectify them after procuring the required replacement parts, equipment and crew, on top of dealing with inclement weather and managing safety concerns and around rigid installation procedure.”

“The ESP inside the Yumna Field which had an operation issue continues to be closely monitored. Further review of the ESP performance will be done, and a replacement would be considered in conjunction with the upcoming drilling campaign,” the company added.

MOL is the operator and holds a 100 per cent interest in Block 50 Oman.
