Celebrating 52nd National Day: Beckoning beaches of Oman

The Sultanate of Oman is blessed with breathtaking beaches that are both environmentally and geologically diverse, and one can find rocky, sandy beaches as well as fjords, islands, and beach-lakes that are home to gorgeous aquatic flora and fauna.

Yiti Beach

Just 28-kilometres from the centre of Muscat, lies Yiti Beach, the perfect place for an escape from the hectic city life. One of the must visit tourist spots of Muscat Yiti beach is the place where the clear turquoise blue sea against the golden sands and craggy cliffs create a perfect setting for someone who wants to relax. While the sand itself is of a darker and coarser nature than that found on other beaches in Oman, the beach alone is not the only place to create fond memories on your trip there.

Qurum Beach

Qurum Beach stretches for four kilometres (2.5 miles) along the Muscat coastline. There’s no great tidal range and waves are small, so even bathing is relatively safe at Qurum Beach. There is also a good selection of international refreshment and dining options along the coast road.

Ras Madrakah Beach
Ras Al Madrakah, near Duqm, is a breezy, misty, beach with a weather that is a lot cooler than the northern coast of Oman courtesy the presence of monsoon clouds in summer months. The scenery here is stunningly attractive, and the beach is a good fishing spot too, where one can enjoy the beautiful soft sand and waves on a weekend camping day out.

Al Mughsail Beach

For an exciting view of the sea, you need to visit Al-Mughsail Beach in Salalah. The running surf is a soothing backdrop for reading and sightseeing but not for swimming. Along the way, you will pass by caves embedded in rocky crags by the roadside. The panorama of the beach from the ridge above is breathtaking.

Tiwi Beach
Tiwi beach is known for its sand and sea-worn rocks sheltering the bay. The coastline of Tiwi Beach has several bays covered in sand and stones, with some parts covered in white gravel.

Al Lakbi Beach
Located in Al Wusta Governorate, Al Lakbi beach is an interesting mixture of soft sand areas and shallow rock pools. The beach’s shoreline receives the benefit of the summer monsoon climate that makes it a natural habitat for a rich variety of birds.

Hal Beach
Located a few kilometres away from Husn Bakha (Bakha fortress), one can see the expansive Hal beach that overlooks the Arabian Gulf in the Musandam Governorate. You can take a delightful break when driving between Bukha and Khasab, and take a stroll in the evening to watch the beautiful sunset. In summers, large flocks of Socotra Cormorant birds congregate along this coast before migration.

Daba Beach
Facing the warm waters of the Sea of Oman and overlooked by a mountainous skyline, the soft sand beach of Daba stretches south of the north of the Musandam Governorate. Having a fishing harbour half-way across its shoreline, the beach is usually laden with several fishing dhows and numerous small inshore fishing boats.

White Beach
Overlooked by the towering escarpment of Al Hajar Ash Sharqi mountain range is the beautiful bay of the ‘White Beach’, near Fins village in Muscat Governorate, on the coastal road between Sur and Quriyat. The clear turquoise water of the Sea of Oman here laps Sand formed from ancient coral reefs, thus creating one of the area’s most relaxing locations.
