MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources stated that the establishment of a multipurpose port in the Wilayat of Masirah in the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, which is one of the development projects included in the tenth five-year plan (2021-2025), comes within the framework of work to develop ports.
The aim is to make fishing in Oman an attractive environment for investments, and to keep pace with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources’ plan to benefit from fish resources by increasing and developing the fishing fleet, and to be a possible and attractive work environment for Omani fishermen, with the provision of many public and private services within the port’s sanctuaries, which will raise the contribution of the fisheries sector to the GDP.
The Masirah Port project includes several basic components, including serving the fisheries sector, facilities for the tourism sector, and transportation, in addition to government and private service facilities on a land area of about 240,000 square metres.
The project will include the construction of a main breakwater with a length of 3,052 metres and a secondary breakwater with a length of 1,120 metres, with a fixed berth with a length of 590 metres, floating berths for fishing boats, trawlers and pleasure boats. The port basin, covering one million square metres, will be dredged to a depth of 5-6 metres. — ONA
